Manila's Chinatown TV Deletes Evidence of its CCP Propaganda

Manila-based Chinatown TV News tries to erase its glaringly propagandistic coverage of a United Front Work Department operation in the Philippines, and in the process draws attention to its own complicity in spreading CCP propaganda.

Manila's Chinatown TV Deletes Evidence of its CCP Propaganda

My last post detailed how the United Front-linked Philippine Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (PCPPRC) serves as a vehicle for Chinese Communist Party (CCP) political mobilization among the Chinese-Filipino community. It linked to several videos from Manila-based Chinatown News TV (CNTV) and one from Chinoy TV that documented these events in starkly propagandistic fashion, with footage showing Philippine civic leaders alongside Chinese officials pledging loyalty to "Comrade Xi Jinping", singing patriotic Chinese anthems and receiving instructions in how to advance the interests of the "motherland" from Chinese officials.

Since my post went live, however, CNTV--which says its mission is to "promote our shared Filipino-Chinese culture and keep the public informed on current events"--began deleting those same videos from its YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Sadly for them, SeaLight thought ahead and kept copies, and we have now re-uploaded them to YouTube so the Philippine public can have uninterrupted access to what CNTV is now desperately trying to hide.

This attempted deletion of this content raises a critical question: Why is Chinatown TV so eager to scrub the internet of its own broadcasts?

The obvious answer lies in the content itself. These videos are self-evidently NOT cultural reporting; they are clear evidence of a foreign power organizing political loyalty within Philippine territory, while CNTV, produced by Horizon of the Sun Communications, operates as little more than a CCP mouthpiece to amplify its messaging under the guise of community news. By broadcasting these events, however, they have created a public record of local business and civic leaders being instructed to support the CCP's political goals inside the Philippines.

So who ordered the "code red" on the videos? The timing strongly suggests damage control. As scrutiny on foreign influence operations grows, leaving up videos where Philippine citizens are reported to have "unanimously expressed that the majority of overseas Chinese must bear in mind the entrustment of President Xi Jinping" is maybe something they've realized they'd like to keep out of the broader public square.

So, as SeaLight's own little public service, here are all seven of the PCPPRC videos in one place for your viewing pleasure.

October 2025

Event: 8th China Peaceful Reunification Asia Forum
The Propaganda: This CNTV video shows the scale of the operation, with delegates from across Asia converging in Manila to coordinate "United Front" work. It illustrates that the PCPPRC is part of a synchronized, transnational network reporting back to Beijing.

Event: PCPPRC 24th Anniversary and New Officers Induction
The Propaganda: In this clip, the CNTV anchor tells us how Chinese Chargé d'affaires Zhou Zhiyong praised the PCPPRC for "upholding the banner of opposing independence" and "rallying the patriotic forces" of Chinese in the Philippines.

August 2025

Event: 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression
The Propaganda: Here's where Chinoy TV also joined the game of broadcasting PCPPRC propaganda, as the narrator describes how Ambassador Huang Xilian proclaims that the "strong leadership of the Communist Party of China" was the key to victory against Japan in World War II. This historical fabrication—pushed globally by Beijing this past summer—was broadcast uncritically by a station that claims to tell "stories about the Chinese-Filipino community and its culture, capturing the essence of being Chinese by blood, Filipino by heart."

October 2023

Event: 7th Asia Forum on Peaceful Reunification
The Propaganda: This CNTV clip serves as evidence of how this year's event was not a one-time occurrence. These forums are a recurring, systematic campaign to align overseas communities with Beijing's geopolitical goals.

Event: PCPPRC 22nd Anniversary and New Officers Induction
The Propaganda: Two years ago, Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian was even more direct. The CNTV anchor reports how he inducted new officers with a specific mandate: to "gather the strength of overseas Chinese" for the purpose of "carrying out anti-independence and promotion of reunification activities".

Event: Mindanao PCPPRC Induction
The Propaganda: In describing a similar event in Mindanao, the CNTV anchor describes the new council president, Hong Heping, openly urging his members to "unite around the Party Central Committee and Comrade Xi Jinping".

October 2021

Event: Symposium on the 110th Anniversary of the 1911 Revolution
The Propaganda: The CNTV anchor's narration explicitly states that overseas Chinese must "bear in mind the entrustment of President Xi Jinping" to promote "complete reunification". This is not journalism; it is the recitation of CCP directives.

Chinatown TV’s attempt to delete these videos is an admission that this content is indefensible. They understand that as Filipinos become more aware of the depth of these foreign influence operations, the documentation of these CCP rituals taking place in the heart of Manila is a liability they cannot afford.

Unfortunately for them, we kept the receipts.

It's time for U.S. troops to visit Thitu Island
The U.S. has long kept its distance from the occupied South China Sea features, holding to the notion that keeping the status quo was crucial to avoiding conflict. Unfortunately, Beijing interpreted this reticence as weakness and gutted that status quo, while America's treaty ally, the Philippines, bore the brunt of China's gray-zone expansionism. The journey toward reclaiming the initiative can start with a single, modest step--sending U.S. & Philippine military doctors and engineers to Thitu Island.
